Mac OS X Instructions – these instructions were forwarded by a former student who kindly shared their instructions on how to install on a Mac. Operating systems and software change, but these should work as general instructions for installation.
You need 3 programs to get everything to work correctly on Mac OS X.
1) You need X Quartz available from:
2) Then you can download WiSP from:
3) Finally download “R” from:
* It’s easiest to install everything if you move it from your DOWNLOADS folder or wherever you download things to your desktop.
1) Install X Quartz by double clicking the .dmg file you downloaded. It will install.
2) Unzip WiSP (typically by double clicking it, you should now see a “wisp” folder on your desktop. Leave it there for now.
3) Run the “R” package simply by clicking on it. It will install.
Now you must load WiSP onto your Mac.
1) Hold the “COMMAND” button near your spacebar AND hit the space bar at the same time. This will bring up an app called Spotlight. Type “terminal” and hit enter. This will open the terminal app.
2) In terminal type this in and hit enter: “cd Desktop”. It is very important you make sure your “wisp” folder is on your desktop and nowhere else before doing this.
* Before you type “cd Desktop” you can simply type “LS” into the terminal app and it will show you everything on the desktop (the wisp folder should be there). The “cd” stands for “change directory”.
3) Now, type this exactly into terminal and type this and hit enter: “R CMD INSTALL wisp”.
If you’ve done everything right this should load “wisp” into your MAC/applications folder.
To run “R” you can simply hit your “COMMAND” + “SPACEBAR” again to open Spotlight and simply enter the letter “R” and hit enter. It will open “R”.
Proceed with the WiSP instructions as normal.
