Going into interviews can be anxiety provoking, intimidating, and make us feel unnatural. I still remember the many interviews that I was not prepared for and needless to say, did not do well in. It made me doubt myself, particularly my abilities–to articulate my thoughts properly. Yes, preparation is paramount–no doubt about that. We need to do our homework before and practice, practice, practice!

But what if I suggested another way to look at it. What if I told you the paradigm to have is that of children. Let me explain what I mean–take time to examine children (that you know or don’t know) and their lives and how they live it. If you pay close attention and lean into their characteristics, you will notice that they live with: freedom, courage, confidence, hope, trust, excitement, anticipation, etc. Next time you prepare and go into an interview, try emulating those characteristics of children. It may work. You have nothing to lose but more to gain with that confidence and mindset.
