I’m working on a history writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Write about 500 words covering the following questions, and based primarily on the two Primary Source Documents.
1. The author of the first document — Dadabhai Naoroji — was an Indian mathematician, professor and politician who, for a long time, lived in Britain, where he became the first person of South-Asian descent to occupy a seat in the British Parliament. He argues that, as of 1871, British rule of his country has had both positive and negative consequences. What does he say is the main positive? What is the main negative? On balance, would you say he is more in favor of or opposed to British rule of India? Justify your answer.
2. The author of the second document, Mahatma Ghandi, went on to become the most famous hero of Indian Independence (achieved in 1947). How does HE evaluate British rule? How is he similar to and how does he differ from Naoroji?
