Love of Country (Amor de patria) in Cristina Garcia’s Monkey Hunting

Students should analyze the theme of love in a reading or readings from the course this semester.  For example, a student may choose to explore the different ways love is depicted within one work studied this semester, or he/she may choose to explore the similarities between different works and how they depict love (these are only examples, there are other possibilities).  Students should do in depth analysis and support their position(s) through the use of outside sources such as literary criticism, historical sources, sources on society and culture, or they may take an interdisciplinary approach and use sources from multiple fields.  Students must use at least 4 outside sources, and at least 2 of these sources must be non-internet (such as scholarly journals, books, etc.  However, the online version of a scholarly journal for example is OK).  Two of the sources must also be sources found through research and not provided by the professor (i.e. A Lover’s Discourse or articles provided by the professor).  Encyclopedias and almanacs do not count as sources.  Many students may find that they need more than 4 sources to develop their papers well.

The final paper should be 4-7 pgs., typed, double spaced, in MLA format (7th edition).  Grades will be lowered for not following MLA format.  The final paper must be written in Spanish and include all necessary symbols from Spanish such as accents, etc.  Quotes in English from sources should be left in English and not translated.

No late final papers will be accepted.

As always rules for academic integrity should be followed and the work submitted should be solely the work of the student.
