Columbus, Christopher. The Journal of Christopher Columbus (during his first voyage, 1492-93) and Documents Relating the Voyages of John Cabot and Gaspar Corte Real. Clements R. I have to write a paper using the source above and can compare to Zinn readings.
Suggestions:
- Choose a topic that interests you: if you are interested in studying nursing, why not examine a source about the smallpox inoculation such as one of Edward Jenner’s pamphlets? (just an example)
- Write a clear introductory paragraph that explains the historical context (i.e. what was happening around the time your source was written), provides a clear thesis so the reader (aka me) can follow your argument, and articulates a significance for your topic (Basically, why do we care? Why write 1500 words about this?).
- Use quotes from your sources, but explain them to the reader. You cannot put a chunk of text down without explaining what it is saying and how it ties to your argument/thesis.
