The first assessment task is to write a critical exhibition review of 2000 words. The review should be of a current exhibition (the exhibition might be sited in Liverpool or any of the UK cities.
The review should attempt to give a brief description of the exhibition format and contents. Thereshould be some attempt to give a factual account of the participating artist(s). The review should aim to analyse the intent of the work based on observation and research (this should not be a personal, subjective account). Consider what the exhibition has achieved rather than simply pointing out its failures. However you will also be expected to develop and argue your own critical position in relationto the exhibition, based on your research, in which you offer a contextualized evaluation andresponse. In your preparation it would be advantageous to examine a range of published exhibition reviews in order to consider the accepted format and content.
Although this review is not an academic essay you should use referencing to academic standards and do not use the first person. Published reviews are expected to keep to strict word count limitation and use limited, but essential, referencing.
