Essay#3 – Annotated Bibliography (500 words, 2 typed pages)
Write a one or more paragraphs summarizing the material of each source that you are utilizing in your research essay (one or more paragraphs per source) and evaluating that material in terms of its usefulness for your research essay. List the source via MLA at the top of each entry and the proceed with the paragraphs(s).
Essay #5 Research Essay
For your research essay (5-6pages, 1500-1800 words), you will write a paper which will provide a biographical, historical, or scientific context for one of the stories, poems, or plays that we read this semester. For example, you can write about Christianity and Hamlet, about African American culture and Song of Solomon, about psychology and Oedipus Rex, about the Trojan War and the Odyssey, or Greek culture and religion and the Odyssey. Dates for submitting proposals, rough drafts, and final draft are listed in the syllabus. This project requires you to consult secondary sources and cite them properly. The essay must present a thesis or main point, not just a catalogue of information. You must use MLA format for presentation and documentation, employ at least three relevant sources, and employ at least one literary text.
In this course, we will devote considerable time to strengthening library skills and refining research questions. As this project comprises a significant portion of your final grade, you will need to plan your time accordingly to accommodate your research, organization of sources, writing, and revision. You are strongly advised to consult to consult the writing Center to maximize your potential on this high stakes assignment.
