This written assignment will address the legal issues developed in the story of a TV show (see below). The analysis must be based on the Natural Law Tradition. The students will present a particular issue by choosing a scene of the movie and a character from the story and writing a letter on their behalf (1st person). Following the model of the Letter from Birmingham Jail, the students will answer the question :Under what circumstances and in what way is willful disobedience of the law justified? In order to answer this question, the students will describe a scene that portrays the application of oppressive laws against a character due to their identity or social status. Afterwards, the students will analyze the moral implications that could justify the willful disobedience of those oppressive laws at the particular context.
