  1. Imagine that you are a special education teacher who is also a licensed speech–language pathologist (SLP). You were recently hired by a large school district as a language development specialist to support the teachers and school staff that work with children with learning disabilities and language and development disorders within the district.
    It has been brought to the attention of the District Office that inaccurate information has been provided at some sites regarding the relationship between learning disabilities and language and development disorders and the differences between communication, language, and speech. The Director of Special Education Services wants all schools in the district to provide the same information to teachers and staff regarding these topics and assigns this task to you.
    Create a 2-page resource that addresses the following:

    • Definitions of communication, language, and speech
    • 5 basic components of language
    • Language acquisition related to expressive and receptive abilities
    • Research results on etiology and prevalence of learning disabilities and language development disorders
    • Conditions that are medically related to language and development disorders
