Getting Started
The philosophy of an organization is communicated and demonstrated by managers, leaders, and followers through core values, mission statements, and vision statements. These statements are created for the benefit and support of both internal and external stakeholders; and for the establishment of future goals and strategic plans. Formal and informal leaders play an important role in attaining institutional goals and fulfilling the purpose of an organization.
Your discussion this week will challenge you to analyze the roles in our profession and how each influence the values, mission, and vision of a healthcare organization. You will focus on the impact of these concepts on an organizational environment.

Background Information
Core values guide an individual or institution’s choices and actions. They are the ideals that are most important to a person or organization and are foundational for the creation of mission and vision statements. The display of uncompromised core values brings genuine credibility to an organization. Managers, leaders, and followers desire to serve in organizations that align what they value, when serving in their assigned roles. In short, the vision of an organization must be accountable to established values. Some of the values that organizations choose include respect, life-long learning, commitment to excellence, stewardship, creativity, integrity, ethical practices, service, volunteerism, wisdom, personal development, simplicity, leadership development, cultural sensitivity, and loyalty.
