In each scenario below, identify the major issues to address and key actions you should take. What is your role as a leader, with legitimate authority over each of these workplace teams? (Adapted from Exercises in Building Effective Teams, pp. 432-3.)
Scenario 1: You graduated from Miami and are ready for your first management position. This is a newly created position, as well as a newly formed team. The team is coming together for the first time, and this is the first meeting.
Scenario 2: You are now managing a pre-existing team. This team has a reputation of goofing around, being unproductive and unprofessional.
Scenario 3: Your team is starting to experience internal conflict. There are strong points of view and cliques are developing.
Scenario 4: Your team is effective and efficient. You want to ensure that this high level of performance not only continues, but improves.
