S-Z: Communication is at the core of many aspects of daily life. Sharing information, expressing an opinion, or proposing change all require clear and concise voices and writing. The Orlando Sentinel is a leading newspaper covering central Florida and offers multiple platforms and opportunities for information dissemination. One such way is to provide a forum for individuals to “rant” about issues of concern. A rant is a short and direct critique of a situation or issue. Choose a nursing topic that you are passionate about, such as a workplace issue, community concern, professional implications, etc. and write a maximum 30-word “rant” for submission to the editorial section.
For your initial discussion post (minimum 350 words), answer the prompt determined by the first letter of your last name. The content of the initial posts must be supported by evidence from the module reading(s).
Additionally, share your thoughts on the following:
1) Your feelings about engaging in public conversation regarding your chosen issue (Have you ever voiced your opinion in a public forum or setting?), 2) Composing your message with a limited number of words (Is this a doable task? Does it allow one’s message to be clearly understood?), and 3) Submitting your opinion anonymously (Did you feel a greater sense of freedom to discuss your issue without identifying yourself, or did it hinder the context and relevance of your message? Why or why not?).
