I’m working on a sociology question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Police officers offer the most direct and immediate contact that most people have with the criminal justice system. Of recent years there have been several episodes of individuals who have had violent confrontations with police officers (George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown- Ferguson Missouri; Sylville Smith, Milwaukee Wisconsin; Freddie Gray, Baltimore Maryland; etc.). In some of these situations the incident (or surrounding events) have sparked mass rioting within communities. A collection of these events have even led to social movements (Black Lives Matter).
Please use either the Functionalist, Conflict, or Interactionist perspective and reflect from a “sociological” view on these events. Identify the perspective you are writing from, and provide a sociological explanation of the rioting.
