  1. Develop your research question and develop an outline which will be due next week. Remember we don’t do exploratory studies, ie., you must answer a question. Example: Is there a correlation between having a college degree and poverty rates? In this case the hypothesis, or what you expect to find during the course of your study is that a college degree has a negative impact on poverty rates. Meaning as the education level goes up the poverty rate, or likelihood a person earns wages below the poverty line decreases.
  2. Your outline must include:
  3. A. Research question.
  4. B. Hypothesis.
  5. C. Statement of the problem.
  6. D. Significance of the Study.
  7. E. Preliminary literature review.
  8. F. Research methodology and.,
  9. G. Preliminary conclusions.

Ms. Parker,

I don’t have a problem with this topic. However, I would like to know how you will empirically measure “corporate social responsibility“. Remember, we measure events /phenomenon. We don’t do exploratory studies where the conclusions are driven by personal opinion. The question this case would be: Its there a correlation between corporate social responsibility and performance of audit firms? You would then have to explain in your methodology how you plan to quantify corporate social responsibility and audit firm performance. I you believe you can show a measurable relationship between the two and control for the other dependent variables which could potentially impact audit firm performance then I think it will be fine. The next question is how will you quantify and measure the impact of the other dependent variables which could potentially impact the performance of audit firms outside of corporate social responsibility. Also, is corporate social responsibility something that is infused into the actions of a corporation in a way that causes the organization to perform better or worse on audits and other activities, or is it a general ideal, set of goals, values and ethical standard of operating?
