The keyboard and mouse have ruled the user interaction domain for decades, but recent advances in multitouch technology have changed the game. The natural and simple interaction enabled by touch screens is appealing but does add several important new consideration to user interface design.
Explain three unique aspects of designing for a touch screen user interface. In addition, list an app that uses those aspects well with points that validate the app selection.

Joshua” Throughout the 20th Century, people probably never imagined that they would be to hold a phone in their hand, that could act as a computer, cellphone, and provide so many functions! While living in the 21st Century, practically every single human being has a Smartphone whether it is an iPhone or Android. While we have been dependent on mouses, keys, etc to perform functions on a laptop/computer, now new technology allows us just to use one thing – our hand. That’s right! The Interface Design for a user has evolved so much, to where now we are able to call or type with our hands touching the screen. But when designing a friendly user interface design for a touch screen there are three main areas to keep in mind.
- Design a navigation system that works well with the layout on the screen that will allow the user to conveniently operate it.
- Always make sure to have the appropriate settings and size of the elements regarding the screen to be correctly selected.
- Lastly, since we are not using a mouse to click on something, it’s always best to have well design hand gestures that will allow the user to conveniently operate the app/screen.
One app, particular that does an amazing job in these three areas that I noticed is Facebook. And it isn’t just Facebook, all Social Media (including YouTube) do an amazing job in these three areas by adapting to different screen sizes to fit the user’s device, allowing them to conveniently navigate throughout the app, and have a well-ordered navigation system that fit’s well with the layout. The touchscreen user interface has truly changed the way we live our daily life and perform certain functions!
