Executive Perspectives [CLO: 2]
Prior to beginning work on this interactive assignment, read Chapters 8 and 10 in the Eiras and Scott (2010) Practical CIO: A Common Sense Guide for Successful IT Leadership e-book, and read Chapter 5 in the Smith (2013) Wiley CIO: Straight to the Top: CIO Leadership in a Mobile, Social, and Cloud-Based World e-book.
Based on the work you have already completed in the Weeks 1 through 4 assignments, and the information in the required resources for this week, you will take on the role of CIO and create an executive summary of your chosen IT challenge plan.
Using the software of your choice, create a 5- to 10-minute video presentation of your Integrative IT Strategic Plan as if you were presenting it to your executive peers or to a board of trustees for funding approval. (Quick-start guides are available for Screenr (Links to an external site.), Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.), and YouTube WebCam (Links to an external site.) for your convenience.)
Synthesizing your IT knowledge in technology implementation, create your video presentation using the executive summary elements listed below as your guide. Include the link to your video in your initial discussion post.
In your video presentation, include the following executive summary elements:
- Purpose of the Integrative IT Strategic Plan;
- Business objectives for the acquisition, outsourcing, or business process reengineering (BPR) challenge you identified in your scenario;
- Current state of the organization;
- Future state;
- Recommendations;
- Implementation costs;
- Monetary benefits derived from the project; and
- Critical success factors
The company I selected is Walmart and this is the scenario I selected:
Challenge Option #3: Outsourcing Your organization has determined that it wants to outsource an enterprise-wide business process or IT function to a third party provider. • Consider the elements that will need to change in your organization to move the functions to the outsourcer, including, but not limited to, processes, systems, and data exchange. • Consider also that moving the functions outside the organization does not mean less work or fewer IT people, as outsourcing has many facets that require active management to assure consistently positive results that provide ongoing support for the organization. • You will need to determine how the outsourced processes will impact your IT organization and to consider how to implement the outsourcing with as little disruption to your organization as possible. Be aware that even though your organization might outsource an IT process, it will likely have effects on processes outside your IT organization. You will need to anticipate and address those effects. • You will need to consider your current personnel levels and what you will need to do at the conclusion of the outsourcing. Consider the emotional intelligence side of the changes including staff reduction if this is necessary in your scenario
