Is there a God? This is a question that human beings have asked for millennia. In class, we discussed several philosophical arguments for and against the existence of God. One of the most hotly debated arguments is the so-called “problem of evil” argument. Your job in this paper will be to give a critical analysis of this argument. In this paper, you need to do the following: (1) explain why you think the question of “is there a God?” is important and show the reader why you think it is important to address it; (2) briefly explain the “problem of evil,” taking care to explain its conclusion, its premises and the reasoning that might be offered to try to show that the premises entail the conclusion (3) regardless of whether you think the argument works, briefly explain what you think are the two strongest criticisms of the “problem of evil” argument (4) which of these competing positions is correct — in other words, do you think the “problem of evil” is a good argument or not? Do you think it shows that there is no God or do you think it fails? Try to make a case for your point of view. In other words, explain to your reader why you think what you think and try to persuade them that you’re right. (5) Whichever position you find to be more persuasive, make sure to very briefly examine one counter-argument to your position and respond to it briefly.
Make the argument for a God and that God does exist.
