Essay Exam

1 question (see below)

Content: 20 points

Grammar/coherence: 10 points

Compliance with instructions: 10 points

Total: 40 points (20% of class grade)

 

ESSAY QUESTION:

 

Anthropologists study the human condition, integrating biology, material culture of the past, and “living culture” of the present. Discuss this concept, as follows:

1. Discuss the general idea of anthropology

2. Drawing from lecture notes/readings, briefly present three examples of the different types of anthropological research, providing appropriate factual information:

a. Biological anthropology/paleoanthropology/primatology

b. Archaeology

c. Cultural anthropology

3. Compare and contrast these examples as they pertain to our understanding of human society.

 

Length: no more than two pages. Mininimum: @ 15 sentences

 

STUDY TIPS:

1. Examples can (and must) be drawn from all aspects of this course.

2. Review your notes from class, reading, etc.

3. Identify three examples of discoveries, theories, etc. that reflect a-c, above, for which useful detail is available.

4. Review associated readings, etc., to make sure you have a reasonable body of information to convey

5. Once you have compiled this information, prepare an outline for your essay so that the relevant material can be committed to memory.

 

6. If you find essay writing to be challenging, preparation of a rough draft would be useful.
