Introduction

  • You are being asked to be in a research study asking for your perceptions regarding the use of less-lethal technology by law enforcement to prevent crime occurrence.
  • You were selected as a possible participant because you are a Park University studying in the Criminal Justice program.
  • We ask that you read this form and ask any questions that you may have before agreeing to be in the study.

Purpose of Study 

  • The purpose of the study aims to investigate both how the public perceives and the level of this perception on police’s use of nonlethal technologies and how it impacts police-public relations and crime prevention initiatives.
  • Ultimately, this research will be used in final research study. 

Description of the Study Procedures

  • If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to complete the attached survey questionnaire. Please answer the questions truthfully. 

Risks/Discomforts of Being in this Study

  • There are no known or reasonably foreseeable (or expected) risks associated with participating in this study.

Benefits of Being in the Study

  • There are no benefits associated with participation in this study.

Confidentiality

  • This study is anonymous, and we will not be collecting or retaining any information about your identity. All records of this study will be kept strictly confidential. Research records will be kept in a locked file, and all electronic information will be coded and secured using a password protected file. We will not include any information in any report we may publish that would make it possible to identify you.

Payments

  • You will not receive any payment for participating in this study.

Right to Refuse or Withdraw

  • Your participation in this research is completely voluntary. You may refuse to take part in the study at any time without affecting your relationship with the investigators of this study or with Park University.

Right to Ask Questions and Report Concerns
