Review this week’s material on energy futures. In particular, read the article by Mitchell “Carbon Democracy” and the chapter by Perkins “Barriers and Challenges.”

Questions:
1. Mitchell discusses how the material form of an energy and its associated production and supply technologies has directly affected democratization. In what ways do you think the transition to renewable, non-carbon (fossil-fuel) based forms of energy will affect politics and democracy?
2. Perkins specifically identifies major challenges/barriers to transitioning to a carbon-neutral (renewable-based) economy. Which of the challenges do you think is most difficult to overcome? Why?
