Criminal Justice – Chief of Police

The topic of the article is “Police Officers, Stigma, and the Opioid Epidemic”. This is a very important topic for the Chief of Police since he has to ensure that police officers remain focused when fighting the opioid epidemic. Instead of holding stereotypes or stigmatizing people using opioids, police officers should approach them with the intention of helping them. It is very unfortunate that people abusing opioid and other substances are stigmatized since this would only discourage them from seeking help. In fact, community members with the perception that they would be stigmatized by the police for abusing opioids would avoid them and this means that they would not get the needed help (Kruis, Choi & Donohue, 2020). It is therefore the responsibility of the Police Chief to ensure that his officers are focused and with an open mind to find and help people abusing opioids including their colleagues.

The statistical procedures and data are appropriate in that they show the widespread use of opioids and its effects. For instance, it is shown that opioid epidemic has negative impact on the American culture and the justice system. Data shows that averagely, 130 individuals die each day from opioid-related overdose while more than 2.3 million struggle with substance abuse disorders linked to heroin and prescription opioids. The provided data also shows that drug abuse violations had the largest number of arrests in 2017 with a third of these arrests involving heroin or opioids pain pills. Further, data shows that over 50% of the American prison population has fought opioid dependency in their lives while one-in-five inmates were using these drugs a month before his arrest (Kruis, Choi & Donohue, 2020).

As a result of the provided data, the article shows that having law enforcement serve as an entry point to treatment might help fight the problem (Kruis, Choi & Donohue, 2020). This means that instead of stigmatizing or arresting people abusing opioids with the aim of congesting prison populations, the main aim would be to put them into drug treatment facilities. It is better that these people are rehabilitated rather than being incarcerated.

Greetings,

With minimal doubt, the loss of manufacturing jobs in the area and economic conditions have contributed to the rise in illegal drug use among our workforces. There is a correlation between stress and drug use related to unemployment and the unemployment rate (Close et al., 2021). Statistically, “drugs may provide a temporary respite for stress; in the long run, drug abuse makes stress more pronounced and leads to a variety of physical and emotional health issues as well as behavioral and social concerns (Close et al., 2021).”

As a franchise business owner of EggsHale Restaurant, we care and are genuinely concerned about the welfare of its people in Dayton. The influx of opioid usage has taken a toll on most cities, contributing to job loss, medical use addiction, home abandonment issues, and many other reasons such as highway interchange access (MSNBC, 2017). We here at EggsHale are looking to have a minimal to none loss of lives from opioid overdoses moving forward, and some ways to make that happen are making our company accessible to you.

Within the upcoming month of June, EggsHale will specifically offer jobs to those with drug addictions. While there will be an initial drug test, this does not cancel you from being hired. However, there will be one conducted every other month for 24 months that is incentive-driven. Every other month an employee who is negative on a test is provided a motivational certificate that provides a monetary payout upon 24 months. Additionally, this requires an employee to participate in onsite physical exercise, meditation, and counseling with a certified sociology doctor that the company pays. Creating programs such as these on jobs might minimize or eliminate drug usage, which helps families and their communities rebuild structurally and economically.

If you are interested and willing to transform your life, this is the place for you. Our motto is to Reach One, Teach One, Save One.
