DISCUSSION PAPER
The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your theoretical informed opinion is valid and worth listening to. Ideas that you are considering need to be carefully examined in choosing a topic, developing your argument, and organizing your paper. It is very important to ensure that you are addressing all sides of the issue and presenting it in a manner that is easy for your audience to understand.
Choose a topic. It may focus on social and economic issues or global governance as long as not Philippine-related.

Formulate a question within the issue [ex. Why China Won’t Let Hong Kong democratize? – Conservatism; Why Some Arabs Don’t Want Democracy? – Anarchism; Is Religion Compatible with US Liberal Democracy? – Religious Fundamentalism]
oYour job is to take one side of the argument and persuade your audience that you have well-founded knowledge of the topic being presented. It is important to support your argument with evidence to ensure the validity of your claims, as well as to address the counterclaims to show that you are well informed about both sides.
Look for sources to support your arguments and/or counter-arguments. You may use Harvard or Chicago style of citations in citing your sources.
Your title should be the question you have formulated.
Your paper should have four (4) sections.
oArguments. Introduce the topic and your arguments.
oCounter-Arguments. Anti-thesis of your major arguments
oSynthesis. The conclusion of your position paper. Strong points and weak points of both sides. What is the probable result?
oReferences/Bibliography
The essay should not be less than 1,999 words but not more than 3, 999 words [Garamond Font Size 11, double-spaced, 8 ½ x 11] not counting cover page, table of contents, tables, bibliography and appendices
