I need a recommendation letter for one of my students in Algebra 1 class
Hello. Here is more information sent by the student. Can we incorporate some of this into the letter so it would be more personalized. Thank you.1) Do you have a job outside of school? During the summer, I worked for Kalahari resorts as a guest service agent/ front desk. I did end up leaving because of school starting, and so now, I work for my dad’s frost electrical company. I was somehow able to convince him to sign a contract and agree on a bi weekly pay, for helping out his company. I asked for this contract just because an allowance wasn’t very consistent, so as long as I help out, whether it’s organizing receipts, organizing his workplace or filing papers I get paid. 2) What extracurricular activities do you do both inside and outside of school? Do you have any leadership roles in those activities? Currently, i’m in highschool jv volleyball (there is no varsity team due to lack of participants), im also the only other girl participating in our esports club, i’m also in senior committee and prom committee, once this volleyball season is over, i will be participating in yoga club and volleyball club. Unfortunately I don’t have many leadership roles in these clubs besides the prom committee. I don’t have an official leadership role/ name, but I am one of the main people planning and fundraising for prom. 3) Are you a part of any religious group outside of school and have you volunteered with them?I am christian, i go to shoreline church which is a non-denominational church. I’m part of our youth group there. I have previously volunteered for our church’s summer kids camp, where I was one of the caretakers for my group of kids. We went around the church doing different activities, going outside etc… It was called “kidcon” and is one of the biggest things our church does for the kids, the past 2 years it was cancelled due to covid. 4) Have you volunteered during your High School career? If yes, what did you do and why did you do it?Yes, I’ve volunteered for the UT softball game, and also for the gabriel iglesias “fluffy” concert, doing concession stands. In all honesty, I went to the softball game because for one, I enjoy playing softball and wanted to support it. I also love getting out of the house and I needed hours. The fluffy concert, I decided to go just because I knew this comedian already and thought he was hilarious, and because at the time of when they asked me, they were desperate for reliable volunteers. Once again, I loved getting out of the house and needed hours, plus one of my “crushes’ ‘ at the time needed hours but didn’t want to go because he didn’t know anybody so I promised I would go. ( now been with me for about over 2 years ) For the church summer camp, I volunteered because I wanted to help out with the kiddos and make their experience about learning God and becoming closer to him a fun and unforgettable experience. Lastly, I just wanted to do something bigger that was out of my comfort zone. (one of the best things i decided to do)5) What are your hobbies outside of school?I have a couple, volleyball is one of my top hobbies, i’m always playing whether it’s at lunch, after school during practice, or at home i’ll go to our park and play with whoever (sometimes just myself), coming in second place is singing, although i’m not a great singer i will not stop yapping and will sing until i die. These 2 things bring me so much joy, but besides those, i do game online with friends, i love self care ( face masks, cleaning up my nails, hair care, organizing etc…) I am a firm believer that your environment plays a big part of your mood, so I always try to organize my area and make it better and I’ll do what it takes to do so. For example, all on my own I’ve repainted the walls, my dad helped me install new flooring, I also got new shelves, and I’ve been constantly trying to rearrange my room to make it feel bigger and spacious. I’m constantly doing something ( making jewelry, painting, drawing, working out, piano, softball, football, you name it. ) I try new hobbies every month^, but the ones I listed before this last list are the ones I’ve stuck with the longest, as in years. 6) What do you want to do when you graduate from college?Once I graduate college, I would love to be an impact in the social work field. I’ve heard of the negatives, but to me it just makes me want to do it even more. Especially having my own trauma growing up, and having CPS fail me on multiple occasions, I’ve always felt that I’ve had a calling to help kids as basic as it sounds. Just a brief overview, my parents were drug addicts when i was little, and were alcoholics for much longer ( they have stopped their addiction for over two years now, so it is ok now). Due to them doing the things they did, I was born with deformities and deaf in my left ear. I didn’t have anyone willing to listen to me back then just because I was younger. I’ve been wanting to become a social worker for a long time because I feel these kids need to be heard, and I know it’s not as easy as it sounds, but I want to at least try my best to help kids in any way possible so they are able to make it through. After going through alot (more than what I’ll get into), I want to help as many kids and families as I can. I’m going down this path because I know too many kids & families have been failed by the system. I want to do as much as I can to make a difference in their lives.7) What kind of adversity have you faced during High School and how did that help you be a better student or be better prepared for college? One of the major difficulties i have dealt with is how neither of my parents had graduated high school, my dad did achieve a certificate of sorts so he could be able to continue his business, but even with that, being the first one not only to go to college, but to graduate highschool, wasn’t ideal. I didn’t have someone to help me with my homework because they stopped helping me in 3rd grade. I wasn’t allowed technology for awhile so growing up i’ve had to become very independent and be on my own. Even with the help of my counselors, it took me a while to get a sense about what to do for college. I had no idea at all, and my parents tried but they couldn’t help me, so that just meant I had to try harder. My whole life, having neither parents to help with school, just made me want to achieve more, made me want a different path from them, so I got out of my comfort zone and started asking questions even though it does give me some anxiety. ( it was a lot easier to do during quarantine ) I’m very grateful though, my parents have pushed me to be better and challenge myself, because i’ve already come so far, so why not go further and achieve more. :)( If I missed anything or if you would like more questions, just let me know! Once again thank you for doing this for me !)
