In Friedman’s article, War, Psychology and Time, the issue of al Qaeda’s objectives and whether they might be achieved are addressed. Concerning this matter, “The root problem, as bin Laden saw it, was psychological. Muslims suffered from a psychology of defeat.” Concerning this “psychology of defeat,” can you explain the role terrorist group leaders play in addressing this issue in their followers and the tools and techniques they utilize to modify the psychological and behavioral factors of those individuals?
