Outline for Autoethnography Paper

Upload one document with a 250-500 word outline. The outline is worth 5% of your final paper grade.

Outline

The outline should begin with a thesis claim. Clearly define your thesis. What is the main argument you are presenting through your stories and analyses? What do your stories help us understand about your chosen educational issue? This can be a working thesis, it can change and shift as you proceed with your research.

Once you have identified a working thesis and your educational issue, develop a skeleton outline structure. It can be really helpful to separate your major sections with subtitles, as we saw in the Jim Mackenzie, “Peers on Socrates and Plato” article. You can use bullet points for your outline.

  • Be sure to included initial topic sentence ideas for each planned section and paragraph of your paper. The topic sentences should relate directly to your thesis and provide direct support for the points in your thesis.
  • Indicate where you will put each of your personal stories
  • Explain how the story connects to your thesis through your analysis
  • Incorporate your three required course readings into your outline. You can simply list where you anticipate referencing the works in your paper.
  • Include the in-text MLA citation (Chavez 82) in your outline AND
  • Finally, provide an MLA Works Cited page at the end.

Upon completion of the outline, you should have a clear map for how you will proceed to develop your paper in a coherent manner.
