Humanities Socialization Discussion Post

1. “Socialization and experience tend to provide us with a limited and incomplete portrait of ourselves, others, and the world in which we exist.” Think about your personal socialization process; and discuss how it has provided you with a limited and incomplete portrait of yourself, others, and the world in which you exist.

2. Take a position you hold strongly and critically evaluate your thinking with regard to this matter. First, state your position. Secondly, critically analyze your position – how and where did it derive from? Is it your own or was it imposed on you by others? Who? Is it based on critical thinking? Emotion? Personal experience or reasons? When you break it down, do YOU really believe this?

3. Finally, provide the critical counter argument to prove you wrong. Be sure to include the logical basis for your position, and analyze it according to the concepts in Chapter 11.
