“Human traffickers are often the first link in the modern slavery supply chain. In many industries, traffickers deliver streams or groups of slave laborers to “producers” or manufacturers who are in charge of making goods or supplying services with whatever labor supply they can procure (legal or illegal)” (Busch-Armendariz, Nsonwu & Heffron, 2018, p. 127).

Background Information

Chapter Four of Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory, and Case Studies explored the economic impact of human trafficking including the cost to victims and society when victims are exploited. The International Labor Organization (ILO) attempts to capture the estimated annual profits from forced labor, $150.2 billion annually.

Instructions

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. Read Chapter Four in Human Trafficking: Applying Research, Theory, and Case Studies.
  3. Peruse the International Labor Organization Website.
  4. Navigate to the discussion and respond to the following: 
    1. First, choose one of the Key Terms on page 135 of your textbook and provide an overview of that term including definition and specific relationship to human trafficking (minimum of one paragraph).
    2. Second, choose one of the questions to answer at the top of page 136 (8.1, 8.2, or 8.3).
