It is almost signing day in Jayhawkville. All four high schools are eagerly anticipating this day and the two colleges are excited to see which local prospective student-athletes will commit to them.
However, the high school student-athletes and their families in Jayhawkville have some concerns about signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI). A coalition of concerned athletes and parents have reached out to you for guidance.
Your task review the information regarding and write a 2-3 page paper outlining whether they should sign them during this recruiting cycle. Discuss:
Is the NLI an enforceable contract? (are the three elements of contract formation present, are there capacity issues, etc.)
What are pros and cons of a student-athlete signing? Analyze this for both the school and the student-athlete.
- Does the NLI favor one party over the other? Explain your reasoning.
- What is your final recommendation the student-athletes? Will you recommend moving forward with signing an NLI? If so, explain why, if not, explain what you would encourage them to do.
- Please utilize at least three sources which can include sources from within this module.
