TOPICAL PROJECT
(1 project x 200 points = 200 points/33.3% of final grade)
There will be a total of nine topics for project treatment available during the semester. Sign up will begin immediately with the numbers of available slots for each project (Instructor will divide # of students by # of topics to gauge necessary spots). Due dates will vary with the topic selected.
Students should consider this project to be a major undertaking as it is worth 1/3 of your final grade and should require considerable effort. You will be tasked with development of TWO DOCUMENTS – a Psychopharmacology Brief that will be shared with your peers, and a scholarly white paper that will document your preparation of that brief.
Psychopharmacology Brief (100 points) – this is a 1-2 page document in which you:
1) Identify the topic you have chosen, including information about
a) Prevalence (in global population)
b) Population
c) Diversity Information
d) Prevalence (in treatment population)
e) Level of treatment typically required (Inpatient/outpatient, etc.)
f) Relapse issues
2) Identify the TOP 5 psycho-pharmaceutical interventions and for each discuss:
a) The chemical name, classification and indication
b) The brand name
c) If generics are available
d) Discuss the typical course of treatment
e) Discuss Side Effects, Cautions, or concerns
f) Discuss contraindications or co-pharmacology concerns
g) Discuss supply concerns including costs
h) Discuss drug efficacy
i) Off label uses if any
White Paper (100 Points) – A white paper is a 4-5 page document that identifies an issue and provides opinion. In this instance the opinion will be a discussion of your development of your Psychopharmacology Brief. Specifically, your paper will be required to provide the following information:
1) What drew you to this topic?
2) How did you come to select a specific disorder?
3) What were your initial goals for learning?
4) Identify your primary sources, including how they were selected.
5) How did you come to determine your ‘top five’ interventions?
6) Did you encounter any diversity issues of concern?
7) Identify one ‘factoid’ regarding pharmacy treatment of your identified condition
that your peers need to know.
8) Discuss how the assignment impacted your learning in the class.
