An abstract is a concise summary of the content of the article or poster. The abstract is the part of your publication that will be listed in an electronic database. If you want researchers to read about your work, you have to make the abstract compelling. The abstract should be no more than 350 words. In general, abstracts that are submitted for publication will have a word limit. Concision is a hallmark of scientific writing.
In week three you wrote about your case and started the process of researching the background. Use this information and add to it in order to start the process for the poster presentation. Your abstract is simply a short summary of the poster itself. You will want to include background and introduction to why this case is important. Include the case presentation (briefly) and any conclusions about what the reader should learn from this case report.
My advice is to start writing without thinking about the word count. Write down everything that to you explains the case and why it was important to publish. Once you have a document that you feel conveys the case completely, start looking at what you have written and how you can make your information more concise.

The body of the abstract is placed here. Remember to use Times Roman font at 12 point size for the whole abstract body. Focus statement: You begin an abstract with a sentence or two about the topic area. For instance, if the case you chose is about Diabetes, you might start with a statement about the focus of this case within Diabetes. Let the reader know what you will be discussing. You then provide some background for the specific case you have reviewed, what they found that was interesting about this case, or what was unique or special about this case. Include information you found from your literature search that helps with the understanding of the case. Finally, make one or two summary statements about how this case changes what we thought about this disease or how we treat or manage these cases (what was the educational purpose of this case study?). That is, what did we learn from this case? I will provide you with a case study journal article to show you how it’s done. By the way, this summary is 196 words, so about half of what you need to write.
