Variables MSA is also known as Gage R&R for “repeatability and reproducibility.” In spite of the AIAG issues with the use of statistics (see posted paper from Donald Wheeler, “Problems with Gauge R&R Studies”) measurement systems need to be “capable.” But, not unlike quality sigma levles, maybe sometimes or in some cases it is more important for higher levels than others (risk of injury vs minor inconvenience). So, how good do measurement systems need to be and does it matter what they are applied to? Make sure to ground your argument(s) with reference(s) if possible.
