Martin and Mason (1993) stated in the future “attractions will have to cater for visitors who are more demanding and discriminating, as well as more active and more purposeful in their choice of destination. There will be a shift in emphasis from passive fun to active learning and the quality and genuineness of visitor experience will be crucial to future success in a competitive market”

Critically evaluate how the changes in customer demands noted by Martin and Mason (1993) above can be accommodated in part through the design of visitor attractions. In your answer incorporate Swarbrooke’s (2003) “Design Compromise Model”, Swarbrooke (2003) list of “Design Objectives” and the “Seven Project Program Discipline Categories” set out by TEA (Themed Entertainment Project Development Guidelines Reading #8). How has the shift in meeting the needs and expectations of new consumers influenced design in visitor attractions? (Note: Your analysis must go beyond a discussion of just technology.)
