Houston Community College 2003 US-IRAQ WAR Paper and Presentation

The final project of the course will be centered on individual student research projects, which students will begin working on early in the term. Each student will undertake a research project on the causes of a particular war and present the analysis to the class for discussion. The aim is for each student to come out of the class with a detailed understanding of a particular war along with more generalized knowledge about a larger number of wars.

Each student will select one of the following historical cases for his/her research project. We cannot have more than 6 persons in a particular group:

-Presentation:

While the presentation is a group effort, I am interested in your individual interpretations of the war to ensure that all students are on the right track for the final paper. Each group can determine the structure of their presentation, but a typical presentation follows the following format: 3-5 minute historical ground to the war (i.e. important actors, important events, etc), 5-8 minutes on the presentation of causes of the event (each student’s interpretation should be evident during this section), 3-5 minutes evaluation of the aforementioned explanations and possible alternative explanations (i.e. limitations or critiques of the explanations). In total, the presentation should be 12- 15 minutes (please don’t go over), with 5-10 minutes of discussion.
