Your research on the 80ies.
Part 1: Ask your parents or grandparents (or any other older friends or relatives) what it was like to live in the 1980’s.
- Ask
them to tell you stories about their lives. Ask questions for
clarification. If they are at a loss, you may prompt them with
questions: personal life, or on social issues, or on sports, art and
entertainment; they may name their favorite shows, movies, teams,
games… - Write up the story to share with your class. Be sure to acknowledge the person who told you the story.
- What did this teach you about older people?
- What do you think this exercise did for the person telling the story?
- What did you learn about the 80ies that you did not know before?
Part
2: Look up on Wikipedia or on another history timeline: What were some
of the the major historical events, art and social events of the 1980’s?
Don’t get bogged down in details, select three or four things that
stand out to you. Which of these events did you know about before you
started your research? Does it mean that these events are really
important? What events should be on the list of “major” events of the
80ies, but are not? What social movements or changes were taking place?
