Explain how the drive for territory motivated cultural encounters and political expansion in the North American continent from 1823 to 1877. 3) Americans have been obsessed with rights since before the American Revolution. How did the concept of “American rights” influence events in the nineteenth century? Did the government embrace or reject the idea that “all men are created equal?” Whose rights were protected? What major court cases occurred about rights? How did “American rights” lead to the Civil War?
