After watching the film “Pompeii: The Last Day” and reading the three articles, answer each of the prompts below. Read the instructions for each prompt to make sure you include proper citations.
1. What did the film and readings reveal to you about life in Pompeii prior to the eruption of the volcano? What stood out to you about the town? How would you describe the town before its shocking demise? Ultimately, what do we know about life in Pompeii before the volcano destroyed the town? Your answer should be at least 8-10 sentences long. You do not need to include a direct quote but it should be clear that you are reflecting on the material provided.
2. Pompeii is a popular tourist destination. What are the challenges and opportunities in the preservation of this site as a place where history must be protected while also allowing visitors to visit this important historical site? Ultimately do you believe Pompeii should be a tourist destination? Your response should be at least 2 paragraphs for each prompt and needs to include at least 2 direct quotes from the readings and/or film (if you reference the film, you can paraphrase rather than directly quote).
