Starring Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, and Matthew McConaughey.) After watching the movie, write an essay 500 to 1000 words in length in which you address the following questions:

• Analyze the portrayal of sectionalism in America within the film’s story. How does the film emphasize the firmly entrenched divisions between the North and South, especially when it comes to the institution of slavery?
• Discuss the film’s portrayal of attitudes, politics and personalities during the time. Explain your arguments thoroughly, citing specific examples.

Paper Requirements:

• Required paper length is 500 to 1000 words. Do not plagiarize.
• Grammar, punctuation, spelling and proper essay formatting count. You should be able to write a well organized essay, which includes an introduction with a solid thesis, a well-organized and cohesive body, and a proper conclusion. If you have trouble in these areas, please go to the Writing Center for assistance. It is located in the Liberal Arts building, room 201.
• Write in 3rd person voice. DO NOT use 1st person voice.
• Use Arial or Helvetica Font, 12 point Margins should be 1″ on all four sides of your essay
• Name block is single-spaced. The rest of the essay is double-spaced. Put your full name and class (History 101) on your paper in the top left corner.
• No outside sources are necessary or desired for this assignment. However, you may use your textbook for reference as applicable.
• Double-check that you have cited your references (in-text citations). Any reference you make to another work (including the movie), whether as a direct quote or a paraphrase, must be cited. You must include the proper citation notes in MLA, APA, or Chicago-Turabian style. You also need to include a bibliography (works cited page) at the end of your paper.
