HIST 1302 360 Dallas College The Liberalism and Radicalism History Question

  1. Some historians have suggested that recent history since 1970 is characterized by a rejection of 1960s liberalism. Do you agree or disagree? In your essay you should consider the increasing radicalism of the Civil Rights Movement and the development of other activist groups (such as the Chicano, Native America, Women’s, and LGBTQ movements) in the late 1960s and how they contributed to resentment of the “Silent Majority” and the rise of conservatism in the 1970s and 1980s. Be sure to cite specific examples of the who or what were conservatives pushing back against and the kinds of policies they pursued as a result of their rejection of “liberalism” and what they saw as radical activism.
  2. Reflect on history in your lifetime. How would you describe the changes in American life during the last 15 years (2005-present)? What are some of the most important people, events, and developments? How does it to compare to the periods of history you have learned about in this course? What do you think historians in the future will say about this era?
