HIST 100 03 San Diego State University Early Gothic Architecture Discussion

For Enrichment Activity II you explore a topic that relates to something in Chapters 8-15. Anything from about 500-1500 CE could be a good topic 🙂

One possibility would be to visit a museum website related to world history and see their online collections or virtual tours. For example, the British Museum has a site called Museum of the World. You could also explore poetry, essays, art, architecture, music, or dancing that relates to cultures and time periods we are studying. I can also recommend historical documentaries or movies related to course topics. Whatever activity you choose, please make sure you focus on how it relates to things we have been learning about in our course.

Please find an activity (or two activities) that will involve about 3-4 hours of your time. Plan to write about 2-3 pages about what you learned from the activity, and include pictures and/or links that will interest other students. Please make sure you not only share information about the topic, but also give us some insights about what you did and what you gained from the activity. (Reading poetry or watching a dramatic production could be an activity. Reflecting on what you see or hear could also be part of the activity.)

This is not an essay assignment. We are asking you to tell what you did, share what you learned with pictures and/or links, and relate it to class. If we cannot quickly tell what your activity was, or why it is special to you, you will not get a good grade.

Please plan to share the activity in this forum by April 28, or sooner if you are ready. When you post in the forum, please give your activity a title that includes your name and a few words that describe what you explored. For example, it could be “Brad–Tea in the Tang Era” or “Miranda–Mongol Clothing” or “Zara–Toltec Sculpture“.

Please write a brief note (a few sentences) introducing your activity, and make sure this note is visible to other students before they open any attachments. Then attach your write-up and any pictures or links that will be helpful.

As part of this assignment, please give feedback to at least four other people on their activities. You can make the feedback one or two paragraphs…I encourage you to get into it! Please be specific about what you learned from their sharing, and see if you relate it to various things you have learned.

When you give feedback, please give priority to your fellow students who have not yet gotten much feedback. Please make sure your first three responses are to students who do not yet have three responses. (If everyone does that we should be able to make sure everyone receives at least three responses.) You can give your fourth response (or more responses) wherever you feel most inspired.
