We will look at the history of the invention of the automobile. As we will see in this course, utilizing fossil fuels for transportation and electricity production has many implications for sustainability. The patterns of our landscapes and growth of urban areas were facilitated by the automobile. To examine the invention and spread of the automobile, we will watch a documentary biography of Henry Ford (Henry Ford : documentary). The video is located below and the link is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlgLoaP9Zd0
This is a reflection essay on the information and impressions that you received from the watching the video. Some topics to consider in your essay might be:

How was America in the 1890s limited by available transportation?
What was the social/cultural impact of the Model T? What changes occurred in patterns of urban living and use of the landscape with the Model T?
Other manufacturers competed with Ford’s Model T. Why were they more successful than Ford and the Model T? Was the automobile beginning to represent more than just transportation?
Did Henry Ford and others have concerns about future negative consequences on communities of the expanded use of the automobile and the infrastructure (a modern term) needed to support it?
Did you have other impressions of the film?
