Health & Medical Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Paper

Topic Question #1 – We learned about data privacy and the legal framework supporting health information privacy in this week’s lecture and reading. The legal framework is based on the 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Considering that regulation and what you learned this week, consider this scenario: You are a biller in a medical office and find out your best friend’s daughter, a minor, is pregnant but has not told her mother. You think her mother, your best friend, would want to know. Justify your answer with concepts from this week’s reading and what you’ve learned about HIPAA regulations. Is this an example of Privacy, Confidentiality, or both?  Justify your answer with specifics about what the law says, not what you think as a parent or a friend.
