In the format of a ~2,500 word paper, define designing: What is Design?

i uploaded one of example my professor given, but don’t copy it

Upload your papers in PDF format.  Develop a nice layout for your paper on 8.5×11, using single or double  text blocks, well-proportioned margins, appropriate font size, line  spacing, and text line length. Please don’t submit your paper in double  line spacing or 1 2/2 line spacing 12pt Times New Roman standard formats  – experiment with layout and design.

This is a nice opportunity  too write you text in Word or Pages, do the grammar and spell checking  there, then paste your final edited text into InDesign for layout. If  you want to incorporate images and diagrams, you are welcome to do so.  Cite and reference all materials that aren’t your own.

Upload your finished paper to this assignment by Wednesday, June 8 at noon.

Topic of the final paper in HCID510

Define  and describe design based on the readings we have discusses throughout  the seminar – you can do this by describing design based on the nature  of design problems and challenges, design outcomes, the design process,  the people who design, and the setting where designing takes place—this  can be the design studio, the larger participatory design setting, how  design fits into organizations and industry, or how design is taught.

Create  arguments that outline your position, discuss counter arguments, and  contextualize your arguments in the current discourse of HCI and design.  Reference concepts from the readings and additional resources you pick.

Develop  an argument in the form of a 2,500 word paper and compare/contrast your  argument with arguments you find relevant, pertaining to the issue you  are discussing, from the texts we have discussed in class, plus any  additional supporting materials where you see connections (readings you  have come across, recent discussions in the design community, case  studies, depending on the themes you lay out in your paper).

The structure for the paper should be as follows:

  • A title for your paper that best captures the nature of your argument
  • An abstract that provides an outline of your topic (150-350 words)

1. An introduction outlining why you define design

2. A background section that surveys origins, historical development, and current discourse in your topic area

3. Sections that present your argument and compares/contrasts it with selected topics from our readings and discussions

4. A summary or conclusion section that recaps your findings and insights

5. A Bibliography of all sources cited in APA format.

The APA Referencing Style is as follows:

In-Text Citations:  Indicate references within the text using the author/date referencing  style recommended by the American Psychological Association (see below),  e.g. where author’s name appears within the text, “As Thomas and  Carroll (1979: p 7) suggest “, or all in parentheses where authors’  names are not cited specifically in text, e.g. “As some authors suggest  (Jones, 1984; Cross, 2006) “.

Be specific: do not give long lists  of vaguely relevant sources. Where directly quoting from a source, or  referring to a specific topic within a source, give the page number(s).

List all references at the end of the text, following the citation style recommended by the American Psychological Association.
