HCCS The Good Sides of You and Motivation for Continued Education Discussion

1.The LinkedIn modules were certainly helpful in creating our resumes. What I found most helpful is knowing what not to include, which is the “extra fluff” as you mentioned. Considering the employer only looks at a resume for just a few seconds, it makes sense to stick to writing the facts instead of writing a novel. What really stood out from the modules is that it doesn’t matter how much work experience you have for the job you are applying for as long as you know how to word your current job or volunteer experience to fit qualities that the current job description mentions. For example, I do not have any experience with ICU or ER nursing, but that is the specialty I really want to get into. To make my resume look more appealing, I will tailor my job descriptions to give the vibe that I work well under pressure, can multi-task, and able to act quickly. With these qualities, I am hoping someone gives me a chance over hiring someone who already has experience in these units. That’s great that you are planning on continuing to work for the same hospital and in the same unit upon graduation. You have an advantage because people already know your work ethic and qualities. With your experience, I would have thought you would have included a summary of qualifications since you already have experience in the unit you are in and it would show your skills. What do you currently do on your unit?

2.After reviewing the tips and video, I learned how important each section is. Although many think an objective statement may be just a waste a time or skip over it. This section is the first impression your potential employer may get of you. If you just write a basic or generic objective you may just blend in with other applicants. When you are writing the objective statement, it gives you the opportunity to state what you are interested in a particular job. This may help the employer identify if not only you but the company would be a good fit. I also learned for the applicant who does not have as much experience there are different techniques in order to have a good resume. I also learned your physical address is no longer required on the header, which before it was normally used.  The Summary of qualifications breaks down what type of experiences you may have and allows the employer to identify if some of the qualities would benefit the position you are applying for. For those who don’t have as much experience, they can place volunteer work that may be beneficial to the job they are applying for. I decided to include both the objective and summary of qualification in my resume. I do have experience in the past in the nursing field so I decided to showcase my background and strengths. In the objective summary I was able to explain where my goals are for the future including the motivation for continued education.
