After you have read the works by Shepard, Hosseini, LeGuin, Vonnegut, Kosinski, Durang and Tan, answer the following questions with essay that include short quotes and examples.
1. Compare a few works where the insider/outsider” positions are reversed. For example, initially Amir seems to have everything and Hassan nothing; Haber is a respected therapist and Orr is a kook who has real power; Austin has a family and a career and Lee is a drifter who lives outside society who Austin wants to join and the boy in Kosinski’s novel who goes from victim to warped self -sufficiency.
2. Compare a few works that prioritize the viewpoints of children . For example , Newt in Cat’s Cradle provides a commentary on significant events; and any of the daughters in Joy Luck Club; the boy in The Painted Bird; the returning 4 former students in Durang’s play; and Amir and Hassan in Kite Runner .
