HC-4420 mind map

Create a mind map of one tort reform issue related to a recent development (you can choose pending legislation) in a medical malpractice law of a State of your choice. You may choose your own State. For example, you might choose Georgia since it has been a trailblazer in a certain type of legal shield legislation. Or, you may pick ONE medical malpractice case in your state to show how tort reform did (or did not) affect the outcome. You could take a plaintiff’s lawyer’s view and show how tort reform has unfairly limited a damage award to the plaintiff (usually the patient) in the case. Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, you could reason that if the tort reform law had been stricter, then the damages would have been lower or more reasonable -from a defense counsel perspective. Or, you may want to do an analysis of developments in your State’s hospital professional liability law. You may, but do not have to, use any mind mapping software or web based tool. One that I have used is Google’s mind mapping tool called “Coggle (Links to an external site.).” If you use Coggle, don’t forget to invite the class members to view your Coggle by emailing each member of your class an invite.

Here is an example of a mind map I did of Massachusetts tort reform and medical malpractice laws. Remember that you only need to do ONE issue, so your mind map will not be as all encompassing as the one in this example. It can be one branch of the mind map tree that you are looking at; the branch can have three to four offshoots relevant to your issue.
