In compliance with the college policy of attendance for online courses, students are expected to complete an activity to count for attendance. This exercise is to expose you to the beginning content of this course while showing you how primary sources contain information that is vital to the work of historians. Historians create scholarship largely based off the contents of primary sources since they show historians valuable insights of the past.
For this assignment, you will read the first chapter of the course textbook then read this selected primary source from the course textbook. You may also consider viewing the recorded lecture by the instructor upon the chapter content.

Once you’ve read the chapter and read this primary source, construct an essay reflection. Ask yourself the following question, “What does this primary source from Christopher Columbus tell me about the past?”
This assignment should be double-spaced, submitted as a Word document or PDF, one-inch margins, Times New Roman font. The entry should be 600 words of text (excluding the footnotes). The instructor has provided the footnote citation to be used for these two sources.

Students that submit an assignment in an unapproved format (formats other than a Word document or PDF) will receive a 0%. No assignments will be accepted via email.
