Harvard University National Security Ethics Questions

  • In your considered view, has the U.S. body politic in recent years been behaving as a good neighbor, both internally among the citizenry and externally with respect to neighbors?
  • Drawing on your explorations of ethics throughout the course, what might an ‘ethic of responsibility’ find regarding support for White nationalism among political and security sector actors, both leaders and the rank and file? For example, were any behavioral consequences foreseeable given leader actions and rhetoric?
  • Finally, drawing on your own personal and/or professional experiences or understandings, what ought be done about these matters now, and going forward? Do you believe the national security community can rise to this challenge of renewed American tribalism and confront White nationalism and domestic terrorism effectively?
