Start with Sources
It is best to start your annotated bibliography by listing your sources first.
- The sources must be correctly documented in MLA style.
- The sources must be in alphabetical order.
- The sources must be formatted with Hanging indentations opens in new window.
Add Annotations
In an MLA annotated bibliography, there are two types of annotations:
A SUMMARY ANNOTATION summarizes the source through description. It includes:
- who authored the source,
- what the source is about,
- when and where was the source was created, and
- why the source was created (it’s context).
AN EVALUATIVE ANNOTATION includes a summary but also evaluates the source material:
- includes a short summary of the work,
- assesses the accuracy of the work,
- assesses the relevance of the source to the topic of the research,
- assesses the quality of the source as an academic product.
