Compare and contrast three readings from your American Government Examinede-reader – Plato (ch. 1), Thoreau (ch. 1), and King (ch. 4) – in terms of the tradeoff between power and freedom in any political system. How would they each feel about the need for power and order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and citizens’ desire for freedom during this pandemic? How can their arguments be used to illustrate the central dilemmas in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”? To what extent can we use their arguments as lessons for how citizens should act in our contemporary democracy?
