There are two parts to the assignment (Part One and Part Two). Be sure to answer both parts. Again, there is no need for any research outside of the course readings, and additional research will not improve the scores/grades awarded.

PART ONE: Please answer the following question (3000 word limit).

Using any author, or combination of authors, read in this course to analyze some ethnographic material taken from West’s Ethnographic Sorcery. Feel free to focus either as broadly or narrowly as you like in selecting the ethnographic data. Finally, remember that in this question, you are not being asked to comment on West’s own analysis or theory.

PART TWO: Please answer the following question (1,500 word limit).

Answer one and only one of the following two questions:

Question One: Compare your analysis in part one to the analysis West uses. To what degree does your own analysis either agree or disagree with West’s? What are the comparable strengths and weaknesses of these two analyses?

Question Two: Is all ethnography sorcery, like West claims? Discuss.
